What is Early Childhood Intervention (ECI)?

Objectives: 
To refer to services for young children (ages birth to three) who have a developmental delay, have atypical development or are high risk for a developmental delay and/or atypical development.

To support parents with the practical and emotional problems that may come with having a child with or at risk for developmental delays or atypical development.

To design a specially designed treatment program to meet the individualized needs of each child and his/her family.

Eligibility:
ECI Services are available to children aged birth to three who:

Have a developmental delay in one of more areas:

~Thinking and learning skills (cognitive development)
~Moving, seeing and hearing (physical development)
~Understanding and using sounds, gestures and words (communication development)
~Responding to and developing relationships with other people (social-emotional development)
~Taking care of one’s self when doing things like eating and dressing (adaptive development)

Experience atypical development. Children may show unusual ways of interacting with toys or people.

Are categorized as high risk. Some children at risk have diagnosed conditions that later on may cause developmental delays or atypical development.

Evaluation and assessment; services provided free to the family (3rd party insurance may be billed.)
Service coordination; services provided free to the family (3rd party insurance may be billed.)
Linking to community resources; services provided free to the family (3rd party insurance may be billed.)
Parent information and education
Developmental stimulation
Evaluation and training for childcare providers
