Sreening, Triage, and Referral Emergency/Access Services
Emergency/Access Services of Onslow Carteret Behavioral Healthcare Services provides 24-hour emergency/access services to persons in need of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services. These services include intensive case management, medication administration, detoxification from alcohol/drugs and triage to a variety of internal and external services.
Access to these services includes telephone emergency intervention, assessments of individuals presenting for services, consultation and referral for clients, involuntary and voluntary services, commitment evaluations and admission arrangements for individuals needing hospitalization.
All new clients will enter the Area Authority through our Emergency/Access Services and will be screened in order to assess the therapeutic needs of youth (5-18 years old) and adults.
Clients who are being discharged from an inpatient facility will be referred to Emergency/Access Services for intensive case management and aftercare treatment.
SOS is the current provider that has been contracted to provide regional detox services. This unit has a 24-hour, non-hospital, medical Detox Unit and has 15 beds available that helps individuals in their first steps on the road to recovery. The primary goal in Detox is to provide a safe, protective, therapeutic environment where a person may withdraw from alcohol and/or drugs. Shortly after admission to the Detox unit, the consumer meets with the treatment team to begin discharge planning (Early discharge planning assures the consumer of an easy transition back into the community.).
Detox is based on abstinence, where consumer participate in daily group sessions, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings (12-step involvement) and individual counseling.
Detox is for any adult (18 and above), who is experiencing problems with alcohol or other drugs or has developed an addiction and is unable to control his/her use. Consumers may be referred for inpatient care by self, physicians, social service agencies, local mental health centers, family members, hospital emergency rooms and other community organizations.
