Consumers and Families Information
About Us PDF Print E-mail

Onslow Carteret Behavioral Healthcare Services (OCBHS) is the area mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse authority for Onslow and Carteret counties.  OCBHS, as a Local Management Entity (LME), is responsible for overseeing and managing a system of care for consumers and their families. OCBHS contracts with many public and private, outcome based, providers throughout the area to deliver care to those who need it.

Much has changed in recent years with the system of mental health developmental disabilities and substance abuse care. Legislation and rules at the state level have dramatically changed who, where and what services are available to consumers. One of OCBHS's objectives is to assist the community with those changes and advocate for other needed changes.

Choosing Your Provider PDF Print E-mail

When treatment needs are identified, your worker will talk with you about which providers can meet those needs and help you learn more about those providers. You will be able to choose your clinical home provider, your assessment provider, and providers of any other services you need. You may choose one provider for all your needs or you may decide to work with different providers. Either way, the choice is yours.

The OCBHS worker will ask for information about your situation to assess your needs. If this screening determines that clinical services may be helpful, the OCBHS worker will help you choose a private provider and help you schedule an appointment.
