For Immediate Release

Department of Health and Human Services Approves Onslow/Carteret Transition Plan

(Jacksonville)-Onslow County Behavioral Healthcare Services (OCBHS) has received written endorsement from the Director of the NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, Mr. Mike Moseley, recommending to the Department of Health and Human Services that Onslow County proceed with plans to join with Carteret County to form a new multicounty area authority. The Department of Health and Human Services has given approval of the Onslow/Carteret transition plan and supports the formation of a new Local Management Entity (LME) to begin operation July 1, 2005.

“We appreciate the strong support received from both counties and all those who took an active part in making this happen,” stated Mr. Daniel M. Jones, Area Director.

A Local Management Entity plans, develops, implements and monitors services within a specified geographic area according to the requirements of the DMH/DD/SAS. This includes developing a full range of services and/or supports for both insured and uninsured individuals. Onslow and Carteret counties have been working on a transition plan to form a new multicounty entity. The planning process has included development and amendment of a local business plan, involvement of all stakeholders and approval by both the Onslow and Carteret County Boards of Commissioners.
