Mission

The Substance Abuse Services Division provides individual, group and family counseling, crisis prevention and intervention, adolescent counseling, and substance abuse prevention to individuals and their families whose lives have been affected by substance abuse.  Services are provided in an atmosphere of dignity and respect for those affected by substance abuse issues.

Services

Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Treatment Services

lSubstance Abuse-Intensive Outpatient Treatment (SA-IOP) is a structured program of individual and group therapy designed to assist consumers to begin recovery and learn skills for maintaining a substance-free lifestyle.  Provided at Carteret Family Services Center, 3820 Bridges Street, Morehead City.  Telephone  (252) 726-0707.

Adolescent Services: 

This programs provides substance abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment services to youth who are at risk of developing substance abuse related problems, or who have a history of substance abuse.   Services are also provided to clients' families if appropriate.  These services are provided to youth who have a personal or family history of alcohol and other drug use, have one or more drug/alcohol related charges, are currently using substances and are in need of help, or are at risk of using drugs and alcohol.  Some of the services offered include screenings and outreach work within the school or community, and education and primary prevention to parents, educators, and youth within the school and community.  Individual, group, and family counseling are provided as deemed appropriate, as are case management services, including linkage with schools, probation, Department of Social Services, and other agencies as needed. 

Detoxification Unit:

The Detoxification Unit is a 24-hour non-hospital medical detoxification facility that has been operating since 1981.   Any adult who is experiencing problems with alcohol or other drugs, or who has developed an addiction and is unable to control their use in less intensive care, may be referred for inpatient care by self, physicians, social service agencies, local mental health centers, family members, hospital emergency rooms, and other community organizations.  Facility located at 215 Memorial Drive.  Telephone (910) 353-5118 (TTY) or 1-888-737-0327 (TTY).

Substance Abuse Crisis Services: 

Crisis services are provided to those clients who have had a recent hospitalization for substance abuse and/or multiple treatment issues and are in need of services designed to help them in the recovery process.  Crisis stabilization groups, with a strong focus on relapse prevention, learning/coping skills, and enhancing overall life skills, are an integral part of this service.  Facility located at 215 Memorial Drive.  Telephone (910) 353-5118 (TTY) or 1-888-737-0327 (TTY).

Outpatient Substance Abuse Services: 

This program encompasses individual counseling, intensive outpatient group counseling, family counseling, case management, crisis intervention, and substance abuse prevention and education.  Facility located at 215 Memorial Drive.  Telephone (910) 353-5118 (TTY) or 1-888-737-0327 (TTY).

TASC (Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities): 

TASC is a specialized community resource agent equipped to work with offenders experiencing substance abuse related problems in conjunction with involvement in the criminal justice system. 

Women's Services: 

This center provides services to females of child-bearing age who have a history of substance abuse, or who live in a physically threatening or emotionally abuse environment and who may be at an increased risk for substance abuse.  Facility located at 215 Memorial Drive.
